How it works

If you can fill in a form and share a link, you can run a duck race. Signing up takes a few minutes, and setting up your race takes about half an hour. Here's how it goes, from signing up to reading out the winners.

  1. 1A few minutes

Create an account and you're straight in. There's nothing to install and nobody will make you sit through a sales call.

    • Sign up with your email address, or use your Google account.
    • Add your group, then invite anyone else who's helping to organise.
    • Connect your bank account through Stripe, our payment provider, so entries and donations are paid straight to you. They'll ask for some details about your group and ID for whoever's in charge. Checking these can take a few days, so it's worth doing early. You can carry on setting up your race while you wait.
    • If you're a registered charity, you can usually get a lower card fee too.
  2. 2Half an hour

    Set up your race

Give your race a name and a date, and tell supporters what they're raising money for.

    • Pick a name, a date and a start time, and write a few lines about your cause.
    • Choose your web address, so the link on your posters is easy to remember.
    • Set a price for each duck. Add a limit if you like, and the page will count down the places left.
    • Decide when entries close. That could be a week before the race, or not until the start.
    • Turn on donations if you want them. Set a minimum and a few suggested amounts that supporters can pick with one tap.
  3. 3The weeks before

    Share the link

Put the link in newsletters, group chats and on posters, then watch the ducks roll in.

    • Supporters adopt a duck, give it a name and dress it up, and it spins round in 3D while they do.
    • Did someone hand you cash at the coffee morning? Enter their duck for them yourself.
    • Your race admin shows every duck and the total raised as they come in.
    • Change a name, fix an outfit or remove a duck at any time before the start.
  4. 4Race day

    They're off!

Put the race on the big screen and press start whenever you're ready. The rest takes care of itself.

    • Every duck races in 3D in the browser, with live positions alongside the course.
    • Anyone at home can open the same link and watch the same race.
    • Messages from donors pop up over the course once you've approved them.
    • The moment the ducks cross the line, you know who won. Read out the winners there and then.

It's £35 to set up your race, and nothing after that.
